Veronika Decides to Die (2010)

Post17 May 2008, 06:46

David is rumored to portray ‘Dr. Blake’ in Veronika Decides to Die (2009). A film based on the novel by Paulo Coehlo.

Well, yes. The book was rather... strange. But if David will be in it, I'd might as well pick it up and read it again, eh? XD

**I happen to be a fan of Paulo Coelho's works, though I have yet to complete my collection**

The lead role of Veronika was originally casted to Kate Bosworth... not seen a lot of her work, but I'm hoping Sarah Michelle Gellar can carry this. I haven't been impressed lately with some of her work (though she can do drama. The Return was pretty good).

I wonder why the switch?

And I haven't read the book... what kind of character is this Doctor Blake that David is supposed to be playing? Good guy, bad guy? Small role, larger role?

I suspect the film will be more inspired by the book than based on it. They have relocated the story from Slovenia to the United States, which not only has changed all the character names but also would change all the social and cultural references. The doctor character in the book was Dr. Igor (glad they changed that! :) His role was significant, but not large. He's not a good guy, but not evil either. Pretty manipulative. Sort of what you would expect the operator of an asylum to be, from the point of view of the patients.

Yeah  . An article in OK! Magazine had reports of Sarah Michelle Gellar being at the wrap party for it. No news of David, or any news of the party itself... just that she was at one. I thought that was pretty fast too, considering the NY Magazine article said filming was supposed to go to July 21st??

I'm also finding a lot of 'on set' pictures from the film, but unfortunately they are all of Gellar and Johnathan Tucker.

So disappointing, when will they learn that it's David people are really interested in seeing?! :D

I suspect they might have stepped up the schedule to avoid being interrupted by an actors' strike.

Oooh! I totally forgot about that... you're probably right. It would suck to have a movie nearly completed, then have to stop because of a strike. It would make sense that they marathon-filmed to get it all done in time. I just hope the movie doesn't suffer for it (if that's the case) :\
